Tustin, CA — Design West Technologies (DWT) today announced the rollout of New Equipment Training (NET) for the recently fielded Forward Area Mobility Spray-System (FAMS-S) Large Variant, further enhancing operational readiness for U.S. warfighters operating in high-risk and contested environments.

Building on its selection as the sole source provider for the FAMS-S family of systems, DWT is expanding its support beyond production and sustainment by delivering comprehensive, hands-on training designed to rapidly equip operators with the expertise needed to effectively deploy the Large Variant in real-world missions.

Enabling Rapid, Confident Deployment in the Field

The FAMS-S Large Variant represents a major advancement in expeditionary decontamination capability, enabling operators to quickly neutralize chemical and biological threats across a wide range of platforms—including vehicles, aircraft, and mission-critical equipment. Designed for use in austere environments, the system restores assets to operational use without requiring personnel to remain in protective gear, significantly improving mission tempo and survivability.

DWT’s newly launched NET program ensures that these advanced capabilities are fully realized in the field. Through a structured curriculum, operators gain the knowledge and confidence to deploy the system effectively under demanding conditions.

Comprehensive, Hands-On Training Approach

DWT’s New Equipment Training for the FAMS-S Large Variant is tailored to both operators and maintainers, ensuring full lifecycle proficiency. The program includes:

  • System setup and teardown procedures

  • Mounted and dismounted operational techniques

  • Routine maintenance and sustainment practices

  • Diagnostics and troubleshooting in field conditions

Instruction is delivered through a blended training model that combines classroom-based technical learning with hands-on field exercises, allowing warfighters to build real-world experience before deployment.

Additionally, DWT provides detailed training materials and technical documentation to support continued knowledge transfer and long-term sustainment within operational units.

Purpose-Built for Modern Operational Demands

Engineered for maximum flexibility and rapid deployment, the FAMS-S Large Variant integrates with the Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) M1279A1 Utility Variant, enabling both mounted and dismounted mission profiles. It is also capable of airdrop and sling-load transport, ensuring accessibility in remote or denied areas where rapid response is critical.

These features make the system an essential tool for Special Operations Forces tasked with operating in complex, high-threat environments where speed, adaptability, and survivability are paramount.

Strengthening Warfighter Readiness

By delivering New Equipment Training alongside advanced system capabilities, DWT is reinforcing its commitment to end-to-end mission support. The NET program ensures that units not only receive cutting-edge technology but are also fully prepared to operate and sustain it from day one.

“Training is a critical component of operational success,” said a DWT representative. “Our goal is to ensure every warfighter has the skills and confidence to employ the FAMS-S Large Variant effectively, no matter the environment.”
